Dance Modern is one of directions a contemporary foreign choreography, engendered in the end of XIX — beganning of XX centuries in the USA and Germany. Term «Dance Modern» appeared in the USA for denotation of a stage choreography, rejecting traditional ballet forms. Entering in the use, forced out other terms (free dance, dunkanizm, dance of sandals, expressive, expressionist, absolute, new artistic), arising up in the process of development of this direction. General for the representatives of dance modern, regardless of what flow they belonged and in what period proclaimed the aesthetic programs, there was intention to create a new choreography, answering, in their opinion, to the spiritual necessities of man of XX age.
Its basic principles: waiver of canons, embodiment new topics and subjects by original dancing-plastic facilities. In aspiring to complete independence from traditions representatives of Dance Modern came, eventually, to acceptance of separate technical receptions, in opposing which new direction was engendered with. Setting on the complete walking away from traditional ballet forms in practice was not able to be realized to the end.
History.
Ideas dance modern was anticipated by the known French teacher and theorist of a stage motion F. Del'sart, asserting, what is it a gesture, exempt from convention and stilizacii (including musical), is able true to pass all nuances of the human experiencing. His ideas got distribution at the beginning of 20 centuries since were artistically realized by two American dancers, touring in Europe. Loi Fuller came forward in 1892 in Paris. Its dance «Serpentine» was built on showy combination of free bodily movements, elementally generated music, and suit — enormous blown about bedspreads, lighted up varicoloured searchlights.
However become a founder of new direction in a choreography was by Aysedora Dunkan. Her sermon of the renewed antiquity, «dance of the future», returned to the true forms, free not only of theatrical conventions but also from historical and domestic, exerted large influence on many figures of art aiming to rid of academic dogmas. Dunkan considered nature as the source of inspiration. Expressing the personal senses, her art did not have general lines with any choreographic system. It spoke to heroic and romantic appearances, descendant by music of the same character. A technique was not difficult, but a dancer passed the thinnest tints of emotions the comparatively limited set of motions and poses, filling with the simplest gestures deep poetic maintenance. Dunkan did not create complete school, though opened a way to new in a choreographic art.
Improvisation, dance barefoot, waiver of traditional ballet suit, an address to symphonic and chamber music - all these of principle innovations of Dunkan predetermined the ways of dance modern. In Russia one of her first followers were studios of free, or plastic dance and musical motion.
